Call for entries - Festival Miden 2008 Deadline extended to the 30th of April 2008 Video Art Festival Miden invites all video artists and video creators to participate in this year’s events, which will take place, like the past three years, in public spaces at the Historic Centre of the city of Kalamata, Greece, in July 2008. Festival Miden is supported by Kalamata’s Historic Centre Organisation, The Messinia Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality of Kalamata. Bergen (BSD and) Linux User Group fortsetter møteserien "Last Thursday", Torsdag 28. februar 2008 kl 19, Auditorium PI, Autogården (Matematisk institutt), Johannes Bruns gate 12, Bergen[1], med temaet Kjernemoduler og kjerneprogrammering, ved Gisle Sælensminde Linuxkjernen består av flere milioner linjer kode, med støtte for alle mulige typer eksotisk maskinvare. For at det skal være mulig å distrubuere en kjerne av rimelig størrelse, kan ikke alt lastes inn i maskinene samtidig, siden det ville brukt urimelig mye minne og CPU. For å løse dette bruker linuxkjernen moduler. Kjernemoduler er biter med kode som kan lastes inn i kjernen ved behov og fjernes når det ikke er bruk for dem lenger. De gjør at ikke alle må kompilere sin egen kjerne. I tillegg til drivere kan de også brukes til å legge inn ekstra funksjonalitet slik som kryptering, nettverksfiltre og støtte for virtualisering. Presentasjonen vil gå gjennom hvordan man bygger en modul, og hvordan den er bygget opp. Kjernemoduler virker ellers som all annen kode i kjernen, så det vil bli diskutert hva som er spesielt med programmering for linux-kjernen, og hvordan de ulike grensesnittene i kjernen kan brukes til å kommunisere med brukerprosesser. VOCENTO and ARCO invite proposals for innovative and experimental online platforms and effective web tools to foster and stimulate the presence, exhibition, communication and management of art on the Internet. The selected proposal will be awarded with a production budget of 15,000 euros (taxes included) to realise the project. The competition wishes to encourage research in the field of social technologies and artistic practice, and more specifically to identify current needs and provide suitable solutions for art galleries in the context of the Internet that would benefit communication between art and society. The proposal, a complete web concept, or environment, or tool, will be an application to be implemented by art galleries. The winning proposal will be selected by an international Jury, made up of two experts in the field of art and technology: Joasia Krysa (KURATOR/UoP, UK) and Santiago Ortiz (artist, moebio.com, Colombia), and a representative of VOCENTO (Spain). LaAgencia will act as coordinator of the award and jury secretary. To participate in this competition, proposals must be registered by the person or the group in this website. * Production of the award-winning proposal has to be completed in a maximum period of six months.
